Berkeley Hall School

McM Concrete is proud to continue our long-standing collaboration with McAuliffe Construction on the renovation of the historic Berkeley Hall School in Los Angeles, California - transforming its science and innovation lab into a space that thoughtfully balances heritage with forward-thinking design.

This project demanded an exceptional level of precision and coordination. From the planning and placement of the colored concrete slabs to the execution of radiused walls and integrated bench seating with sophisticated LED lighting, every element was carefully orchestrated to interface seamlessly with the new exterior façade. The redesigned finish profile and luxury sliding glass panels required exacting alignment, where each joint, reveal, and transition was intentionally detailed to preserve visual continuity while supporting the building’s modernized performance and architectural clarity.

At its core, the design is rooted in mathematics and engineering, brought to life through the creative vision of Poon Design where geometry, radius work, alignment, and proportional relationships guided every aspect of the concrete layout and transformed foundational construction elements into a subtle, educational language. The resulting space reflects the order, logic, and creativity inherent in both math and science, expressed through material, form, and detail.

Most importantly, this space was built for students. It is designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and joy - offering young minds an environment where learning feels engaging and limitless, and fostering a lasting appreciation for problem-solving, innovation, and possibility as they move forward in their academic and professional journeys.
